HDD Driller (40 hours)

Are you energized by working on challenging drilling projects and leading a motivated team? Then we are looking for you!

About SGGB:

SGGB bv is a fast-growing company specializing in trenchless horizontal directional drilling. With projects in the Northern Netherlands and Northwest Germany, we work daily to improve and renew underground infrastructure.

The demand for our services is increasing due to the expansion of the energy network and the replacement of old pipelines. Therefore, we are expanding our drilling team and looking for new colleagues who want to grow with us.

We highly value safety, quality, and the environment, but equally important is the atmosphere in the workplace. As a family business, we work closely together in a tight-knit team with a pleasant and informal working environment.

A great company with nice people and exciting projects. You are given trust and responsibility in your work. I really enjoy working here.

Travel time

A workday:

6:00 AM – 6:30 AM
You gather at our office in Winschoten for coffee with colleagues and to make final preparations.

6:30 AM
You depart for the drilling site, in an SGGB company van or riding along in one of the SGGB trucks.

7:00 AM
You arrive at the drilling site. The workspace is set up: road plates are laid, and the necessary machinery and materials are positioned. Together with your team, you review the drilling path based on the drilling design and the KLIC notification. The entry point is excavated, existing cables and pipelines are exposed, and the drilling machine is positioned. Simultaneously, the exit point is also excavated.

8:00 AM
As the driller, you begin drilling, while the assistant driller accurately monitors the path above ground with a measuring rod. During the drilling process, bentonite is mixed and added to prevent the tunnel from collapsing and to remove the drilled soil. The drilling assistant or mud master monitors the mixing.

9:00 AM
The drill head resurfaces at the exit point. For longer bores, this process can take several hours. Casing pipes are then pulled through the tunnel. If necessary, the tunnel is first enlarged with a reamer to achieve the correct diameter. Afterward, the pipes are attached to the drill rods and pulled in.

12:00 PM
Your team takes breaks for coffee and lunch. Our vans and trucks are equipped with sandwich makers, griddles, or even air fryers, so we take good care of each other during the workday.

12:00 PM – 3:00 PM
Depending on the length of the bore, the number of pipes, and their thickness, the workday can vary. Sometimes we are finished and back at the office by 3:00 PM. Upon return, preparations are made for the next day, such as laying out pipes and replenishing the bentonite supply.

3:00 PM – 6:00 PM
For longer bores, we might not return until 6:00 PM or even later. If that’s the case, we can pick up food from our favorite local shawarma shop.
